David Coakley

Biography  

Irish Actor David Coakley was born in the historic town of Blarney, County Cork, famous for the Blarney stone and its legendary "Gift of the Gab". Martial Arts was his first calling, and over a number of years of training, David became experienced in several styles and forms of Chinese and Japanese Martial Arts, which included Jujitsu, Ninpo, Tai Chi, Judo, Kick-Boxing and Kung Fu having spent time in China. David was first introduced to Acting in school through speech and drama classes, and his interest led him to his career path. He studied The Theatre Performance and Acting skills course at Colaiste Stiofain Naofa in Cork City full time for two years. David holds three Acting qualifications from The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Since his graduation David has worked to pursue his career in theatre film and television.

 

In 2009 David played the lead role in the award winning Irish short film "The Valley of Knockanure" which is based on a true story set during the Irish War of Independence. In the film David portrays Cornelius "Con" Dee, who was the only man from his Kerry based flying column unit to survive whilst unarmed after being attacked by a unit of British Black and Tans soldiers in an act of revenge in 1921 during what is referred to as the Tan War. The Film won the Audience award for Best Film in the 2009 Kerry International Film Festival, and went on to win at the Newport International Film Festival where it won Best Film and Best costume drama.

 

After spending three years working on his first book alongside coauthor and WW-II veteran Werner Braun writing 'Is The War Over?' was released in September 2010. The book is available in both paperback and on Amazon Kindle.

 

In 2011 David appears in the TV series Camelot, having worked on the tenth episode, the shows season finale alongside fellow actors Eva Green and Sinead Cusack.

 

David recently completed his work on the second season of HBO's TV series Game of Thrones second season which will air in April 2012
